Continuing Formation from the Beginning is an annual workshop, offered through the Vatican II Institute for Clergy Formation, designed to support and encourage recently ordained priests in the vitally important tasks of forging a priestly identity, strengthening priestly fraternity, and honing the skills of pastoral ministry. Recognizing that recently ordained priests are often being called to serve as administrators and pastors of diverse and complex parishes early in their priestly lives, the 2008 CFB workshop is designed to assist them in identifying and nurturing both the principles and the disciplines that undergird effective and satisfying pastoral leadership.
The Seven Habits OverviewThe Seven Habits is a comprehensive personal and interpersonal leadership training program, based on the development and celebration of one’s character while offering skill-sets that facilitate ministerial leadership. With the permission of the Franklin Covey Company, and in collaboration with The National Federation of Priests’ Councils, the Seven Habits have been adapted to more fully address the pastoral nature of priestly ministry. Hence, spiritual, scriptural, and theological foundations are emphasized. The workshop will offer participants concrete tools that can be learned and practiced to increase their self-awareness and to develop confidence in their competency as pastoral leaders. In addition, participants will learn to better balance their lives by daily planning and weekly organizing. By identifying specific roles and goals, both in their personal and pastoral lives, participants will be better able to meet the challenges of their day-to-day responsibilities.

What People Are Saying:
“Through baptism we are called to proclaim the Good News. The most credible means of this evangelization is to live integrated, holy, and healthy lives in imitation of Jesus and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to actually become the message we proclaim. This Gospel call is possible only through daily conversion of the heart and thoughtful discipline of life—not one or the other, but both. Centered on values that harmonize with the Gospel, these workshops teach and promote concrete skills that are helpful to those ministering in our complex contemporary world.”- Most Rev. Anthony M. Pilla, Diocese of Cleveland
“Leadership deals with vision, purpose, and mission. The challenge for the leader is to articulate a vision and to nurture and foster that vision day-in and day-out so that it can take root, grow, and flourish in the minds and hearts of others. This seminar observes that, too often, the head of organizations spend too much time handling crises and urgent problems and thus most organizations are over-managed but under-led.”
-Most Rev. Howard J. Hubbard Diocese of Albany
“The seminar was a great opportunity for me to look again at the priorities of my life. It was especially helpful in light of the rapidly changing workload for priests due to the decreasing numbers. Lots of good tools are given for carrying out the priorities and living the principles of the Gospel.”
- Rev. Willard Van de Loo Ministry to Priests Diocese of Green Bay
