Ordination 2012

On Saturday, September 29, 2012 thirteen seminarians were ordained to the transitional diaconate at St. Pius Church in Redwood City by Archbishop-Elect Salvatore Cordileone. Pictured here is Deacon Michael Syjueco (Diocese of San Jose) receiving the book of the gospels. According to the rite of ordination, the deacon is charged to  "believe what he reads, teach what he believes and practice what he teaches." As the thirteen join the ranks of the ordained they do so after years of preparation for this moment. Their theological and priestly formation will culminate in ordination to the priesthood in the spring/summer 2012. May God continue to fill the newly ordained deacons with the will to follow the command of Christ to lay down their lives in imitation of the Master and to love as they have been loved. (John 15:11ff)

IMG 2846On September 15, 2012 St. Patrick's Seminary & University celebrated our 5th Annual Four Pillars Gala; and what a wonderful evening it was!

410 guests were in attendance that night, all to celebrate the three honorees for the evening: His Eminence William J. Cardinal Levada,  Most Reverend George H. Niederauer and  Most Reverend John R. Quinn. 

Thank you to all that attended, and supported the Seminary throughout this Gala.  We are forever grateful for those who share their time and their gifts toward the support of St. Patrick's Seminary & University's mission.

Gene Konkel

 

After a short illness, Father Gene Konkel died September 14, 2012, the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, at his home at Saint Patrick’s Seminary & University at approximately 1PM.  He was 81 years of age.

The Very Reverend Father Robert Barron is the new Rector and President of Mundelein Seminary in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Father Barron is by now known to most as one on the forefront of the new evangelization. Below is his recent presentation on the new evangelization and the culture given recently in Toronto. Apologetics and the upcoming Year of Faith is a particular concern for priests, religious, seminarians and all of the baptized in today's world wherein there is much spiritual hunger. Below is the Toronto lecture and other links on pertinent, even urgent, topics of grave importance for a formational and faith-filled community today. Father Barron has been referrred to as the new Fulton J. Sheen and for good reason!

Archbishop Elect CordileoneThe Holy Father, Benedict XVI has appointed this day in Rome the new Archbishop-Elect of San Francisco Archbishop Elect Salvatore J.  Cordileone, J.C.D. current Bishop of Oakland as the successor to Archbishop George Niederauer. According to the Catholic San Francisco newspaper (CSF), Archbishop George Niederauer announced that the the installation Mass for the new Archbishop will take place on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4, 2012) on the patronal feast day of the Archdiocese at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 

The Community of St. Patrick's Seminary & University congratulates Archbishop-Elect Cordileone and pledges prayer and cooperation in the common work for the good of the people of God in the Church of San Francisco and the many dioceses and archdioceses the seminary serves.

Greetings and welcome to St. Patrick’s Seminary & University located in beautiful Menlo Park California. St. Patrick's is an institution dedicated to the initial and ongoing formation of priests for service in the Roman Catholic Church. St. Patrick's serves dioceses throughout the western United States and the Pacific Rim. The priests of the Society of St. Sulpice have dedicated themselves to this ministry of seminary formation here at St. Patrick's since 1898 when the first Sulpicians came to San Francisco.
