On Friday, May 9, 2012 the graduating classes received their degrees in the context of solemn vespers in the Seminary chapel. President/Rector, Father James L. McKearney, S.S. presided over the ceremonies and challenged the graduates to put what they have learned to good use in serving the people of God.

Ernesto Madrigal at Prayer 1-jpgThe Vatican congregation for the clergy released in March 2012 a document for priests concerning their holiness in a time of increasing atheism. The message is positive in that priests have the potential to move the people of God back to hope in the power of God through their sacrifice and example. The document includes an examination of conscience useful for priests in a time of recovery of the priestly identiy and the unique holiness to which the priest is called. As the seminary year comes to a close  and in light of Fr. Jose Rubio's final liturgical catechesis drawn from Acts 2:42 ("They [the disciples] devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.") the Vatican document attached here (Congregation for the Clergy Letter to Priests March 2012) can be a rich source for reflection in the summer days ahead. May the Risen Lord send the Holy Spirit that we all may be holy as He is holy.

“They said to them, 'Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised.  Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day.' And they remembered his words. Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all the others." (Luke 24:5-9)

St. Patricks-April 11 2012

JesuswashesthedisciplesfeetBlessings to all the community and supporters of St. Patrick's Seminary & University. In these holy days of the sacred triduum may all the faithful sit with due reverence at the Table of the Lord and with sincerity at the feet of our neighbor. As the Church proclaims in the first reading at the Mass of the Lord's supper on Holy Thursday night, as the Israelites ate the Passover as if in flight (Exodus 12), and as the Lord ate His Passover signifying His saving death and rising, may the members of the Church learn from Him to proclaim this message with lives poured out in loving service, in living memory of the One who is coming again (1 Corinthians 11:23ff) and who alone can give life.
