St. Patricks

During this holy week let us remember all the Lord did for us in service of the world. Let us imitate the example He left us as we minister to the People of God in our parishes. May the Lord bless our holy week observance that we may come with true joy and awe to the feast of all feasts. Safe journies all.

Congratulations to our 13 seminarians (most of whom are in 3rd theology) admitted to candidacy for holy orders on April 5, 2011. The rite of admission took place in the context of evening prayer presided over by Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, M.Sp.S., Auxiliary Bishop of Seattle.
FleurToday the Sulpician Provincial of the USA, members of the provincial council and the family and friends of Mr. Joseph Reynolds who died after a short illness last week, attened Joe's funeral at St. Ursula Church in Baltimore, MD. Joe began working for the Sulpicians at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore as a high school student. Then in 1969 he was hired as the administrative assistant to the Provincial. Joe's competency is described in no other way than thorough, compassionate and long-term - he worked for the provincial offices for 36 years. May he rest in peace and may God bless him abundantly for his goodness to the cause of priestly vocations.

Archbishop John G. Vlazny, Archbishop of Portand visited the Seminary for the first time on Friday, March 25th. The primary purpose of his visit was to meet with the seminarians of the Portland Archdiocese studying at St. Patrick's.

Tom_DalyOn this St. Patrick's Day, the Seminary Community is proud to congratulate an alumnus and Bishop-Elect Thomas Daly, a priest of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and vocations director, who has been chosen to become the first Auxiliary Bishop of San Jose, California.

Pope Benedict XVI's Apostolic Nuncio to the U.S., Archbishop Pietro Sambi, made the Pope's choice public on March 16. The 50-year-old bishop-designate is currently the president of Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, and the Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

Blessings to all on this glorious feast of our patron saint!

SIMG_1237t. Patrick's Seminary & University is following the lead of this great apostle to Ireland.

The Seminary does this by preparing future priests and renewing those in the field to bring the Gospel to the people in our own missionary territories - at home, at school, in the workplace, and anywhere the challenging and healing touch of the Lord is needed.

Pope_Benedict_XVISeminarians of the world were given support and encouragement in a letter from Pope Benedict XVI on the Feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist, October 18.

In his letter to seminarians marking the end of the Year for Priests the Pope recalled how in 1944 as a draftee in the German army he expressed his desire to become a Catholic priest to which an officer replied “Then you ought to look for something else. In the new Germany priests are no longer needed.” The Pope then added that “many people nowadays also think that the Catholic priesthood is not a “job” for the future, one that belongs more in the past.”

On Wednesday, October 7, 2010 on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary sixteen seminarians were instituted as acolytes at the Seminary. They were installed by Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, Bishop of the Diocese of Oakland.  This was the first ceremony of institution over which the bishop presided at St. Patrick's since his installation in March 2009 as the new Ordinary of Oakland.
