During the Academic Year 2010-2011, Fr. Anthony served as an ACE Fellow in the office of Father Scott Pilarz, S.J. then president of the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. As an ACE Fellow, Fr. Giampietro visited several universities and colleges, meeting with presidents and their administrative teams to learn how they meet the challenges of higher education.
Fr. Giampietro has an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, an M.A. in Philosophy and an M.Div in Theology from the University of Toronto and a PhD. In Philosophy from Fordham University. He has spoken and published extensively on a broad range of issues including Catholic bioethics, marriage and family life, and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
In making the announcement, Fr. McKearney said, “Fr. Giampietro’s exposure to prestigious institutions of higher education and his many years of experience as a Basilian priest will benefit our faculty, our students and the Archdiocese of San Francisco. I am delighted that he will be joining our administrative team.”
University of St Thomas President Dr. Robert Ivany said Father Giampietro has inspired countless students during his tenure at UST.
“His dynamic and challenging courses have brought the Catholic
intellectual tradition to life for students of every background,” Ivany said.
“Whether in the classroom or on the basketball court, we will miss him and wish him every success and happiness in his new position.”
