On March 1, 2014, Saint Patrick's Seminary & University was honored to host Archbishop J. Michael Miller of Vancouver, British Columbia. An expert on the Papacy and on Catholic education, he now oversees a large and diverse archdiocese in Western Canada. Archbishop Miller gave two talks on Saturday morning, one on Pope Francis and the reform of the Church, and another on the New Evangelization. In the afternoon he led a discussion with faculty and seminarians on Pope Francis’s Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudum (“The Joy of the Gospel”).

Archbishop Miller’s visit gave the Saint Patrick’s community a wonderful opportunity to learn from a great leader in the Catholic Church. Prior to his appointment as Archbishop of Vancouver, Miller was president of the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, before being appointed by Pope John Paul II to be the Secretary for the Congregation for Catholic Education. As Archbishop of Vancouver, Miller has implemented the Apostolate of Catholic Education for Teachers, established a First Nations Ministry office, opened an official communications office, and overseen the launch of a new and highly regarded website.

The Saint Patrick’s community greatly appreciated Archbishop Miller’s visit!
