Welcome to Vatican II Institute

The Vatican II Institute for Clergy Formation was established in 1973 as a three-month
holistic renewal program to assist priests in Region XI (California, Nevada, Utah, and
Hawaii) in the understanding, integration, and implementation of the vision and teachings
of the Second Vatican Council.
From this original design emerged our distinctive and highly-respected sabbatical
program that has welcomed over 2,000 priests from through out the United States and the
English-speaking world.
Now officially established as the ongoing formation arm of St. Patrick's Seminary
and University, the Institute embraces three important goals:
- A continued commintment to the renewal of priests throughout our sabbatical program
- A renewed commitment to collaboration with the Dioceses of Region XI and the
western United States to identify, develop, and implement programs of ongoing
formation in service to the current needs of the region
- Close collaboration with St. Patrick's Seminary to establish and strengthen
the vital link between initial and ongoing formation of priest.
